This exhibition proposed a rereading of colonial art under French rule – from the founding of Québec City to the taking of the capital by the British in 1759. Every art form was represented – painting, sculpture, prints, drawings, fancy metal ware, furniture, textiles and decorative arts – in order to represent civil and religious artistic production. A formidable survey of this rare body of heritage work from the 17th and 18th centuries which has survived the vicissitudes of history.
