Created in 1977, the Prix du Québec are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. These awards are the highest honours granted by the government of Québec in recognition of exceptional careers in culture and science. Since 1977, 217 cultural awards and 154 scientific awards have been presented.
In addition to a grant and a calligraphed parchment scroll, recipients are awarded a medal selected through an art contest held for professional visual and fine craft artists. To date, 138 different medals, created by 54 artists, have been awarded.
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec is joining the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation in celebrating 40 years of the Prix du Québec by giving the public the chance to admire the medals from their collection. Visitors can also get an exclusive look at the latest Prix du Québec medal, all the while learning more about the history of these significant awards.
